2017 Quintana Roo PRthree

2017 Quintana Roo PRthree

The PRthree is a new elite level bike, sharing some technology advanced by its series cousins, the PRsix and the PRfive – lightweight, aero-efficient, stable, and mechanically easy to work on and travel with.

New Elite Level Tri Bike

Opening up a new Elite level category, the PRthree features trickle down technology from the award winning PRsix and PRfive. Shift, Boat Tail Airfoil, Static Downtube Orientation and the aerodynamic QBox storage system are technologies developed by QR specifically for athletes with the goal to acheive their personal record (PR). QR has even gone as far as reducing the bike build up tools down to 2 allen wrench sizes to ease travel headaches. We keep it simple so you can focus on getting your PR.

SHIFT Asymmetric Aerodynamic Technology

QR’s unique “shift” aero design was first introduced in the CD0.1 and further refined in our PR series. Shift offsets the Static Aero Downtube towards the drive side of the bike thus redirecting the concentrated airflow away from the ‘dirty’ (driveside) to the ‘clean’ side (nondrive side) of the bike. This minimizes drag and makes the drivetrain virtually invisible to the wind. The result is a bike that is more stable and more aerodynamic across a wider range of yaw angles. Athletes find that Shift helps stabilize the bike in cross winds which saves them energy on the bike to use on the run.

QR PRthree

Boat Tail Airfoil

Used in ballistics technology and the automobile industry, Boat Tail airfoils are more stable and more aerodynamic than Kamm Tail airfoils while still maintaining effectiveness over a wider range of yaw angles than traditional airfoil shapes. The boat tail shape reduces swirling air pockets off the back of each aero tube thus reducing drag and stabilizing the bike.

Quintana Roo Pr3

Static Downtube Orientation

Wind tunnel testing has shown that dropping the downtube as close as possible to the trailing edge of the front wheel improves aerodynamics. With this in mind, we’ve specifically calculated the downtube drop ratio for each size of the PRsix to make sure that every frame falls within the tightest standard. In other words, every size of the PRsix is as aero as we could possibly make it.

QR PR3

Aerodynamic Storage System

QR’s size specific QBox storage system is designed to further enhance the Boat Tail Airfoil increasing aerodynamics and stability while providing a quick and convenient location for storage.

QR QBox storage system

Introducing the New BMC Roadmachine

BMC roadmachine 01
The past decade of bike development has driven very real advancements in rider experience, with specialization that can deliver ride characteristics to create the ideal performance in any riding situation. For many riders, this has proven truly beneficial. But for others, the choice of which ‘category’ of bike: endurance, altitude or aero, can be quite difficult.

For Riders who Want it All

The new BMC Roadmachine family is aimed directly at the rider who wants it all. From axle to axle, this new frameset delivers sleek lines and integrated technologies, offering a hint of free speed from every angle. Combined with composite advancements in our Tuned Compliance Concept and Angle Compliance Technologies, the disc-equipped Roadmachine reshapes our endurance category. It is lightweight, sleek and incredibly integrated, borrowing technologies from each of its surrounding categories:  the sleek shapes of our aero machines and the lightweight positioning of our altitude series – resulting in a bike pointed straight at an ‘all-rounder’ style of rider.

Start Gravel Riding Today

gr

You already have the bike that works
Your current road bike can be used for an introduction to gravel riding.  All you need are slightly bigger tires.  Continental 28mm Gator Hardshell tires work fine for many dirt roads here in North County San Diego. I have ridden the BWR on 25mm tires, but this year I rode tubeless 28mm tires and was so glad I did.

The term “gravel riding” means riding a road or cyclocross bicycle on adventures which include riding both road and off road.  Unlike many areas of the country, North County of San Diego does not have long stretches of dirt or gravel roads, but it does sport some great off road riding. We have to connect these short to medium lengths of dirt road by riding on pavement. This is where 28mm tires shine. In many cases 28mm tires are the largest tires most road bicycles can run.   Also this size does not slow you down on pavement.  This will allow for exploration of many local dirt roads and trails.

Have you caught the Gravel Riding Fever?
After you have ridden a few gravel rides, it is time to think about a second set of wheels. One wheelset would be paired with your current tires.  The other wheelset would have a more gravel friendly tire.  For example, the aluminum Reynolds Stratus Pro is a great choice.  Weighing in at 1450 grams a pair, they are tubeless ready and can take a beating on the trails.  With two sets of wheels you can optimize your ride time and ride options.

When it is time to get your Gravel Bike?
Until recently a gravel bike was a cyclocross bike with different tires.  The new category of  “endurance bike” with disc brakes has a good compromise of features that allow riding on pavement and dirt.

Perfect gravel bike for Southern California
So, you have a road bike, but you also want the perfect gravel bike. Several manufactures are starting to make gravel specific bikes.  These bikes have hydraulic disc brakes, a lightweight frame, can absorb the rough road and is stable in the dirt. Add electronic di2 shifting and you have the perfect gravel bike. Nytro has that bike

Nytro has that bike.
Nytro has two great choices for gravel bikes; the Scott Addict and Cervelo’s C5 & C3.  If your rides are going to be mostly dirt, get the Addict as it allows for a greater tire size.  If you will be riding more road than dirt get the the Cervelo, it will be lighter and more stable.  If you only want one bike, the C series Cervelo is the bike that performs on the road and is agile on the dirt.

What does Gravel Dave ride?
Good question.  I just ordered the Cervelo C3 with Ultegra Di2.  See you on the dirt.

2016 BMC TM01 Dura Ace Di2 Premium Build

BMC TM01

2016 BMC Timemachine TM01 Nytro Spec Dura Ace Di2 Triathlon TT Bike. For those with the need for speed, no other bikes come close to the BMC timemachines. This cusom built bike is designed to allow you to exceed your previous triathlon personal best at a great price.

BMC TM01

Uncompromised integration of frame, fork and components dramatically improves aerodynamic performance. The powerful brake calipers are fitted into the shape of the fork and chain stays, the seatpost is fixed by a hidden clamping mechanism and all electronic components disappear almost entirely into the frame while the battery unit needed for electronical groupsets is integrated into the seat tube.

BMC_TM01

BMC rounds off the technical characteristics of the TM01 with maximum adjustability of the seatpost and stem. Thanks to this clever system (position to perform, or p2p for short) the conflict between aerodynamics and biomechanics can be minimized. The integrated stem offers 32 different positioning options for the handlebar, while the seatpost can be set at a virtual seat tube angle ranging from 72 to 82 degrees with four saddle clamp positions. Having the possibility to always find the right fit means the TM01 is the perfect time trial or triathlon bike.

BMC TM01

The goal is to better control the air flow around the profiles and delay separation of the boundary layer from the tube surface– the same effect is generated by the dimples on a golf ball. Additionally, the lean front surface area of the TM01 minimizes aerodynamic resistance.
